National insurance is a tax on your earnings that goes towards state benefits. You pay it either through your wages or via a self-assessment tax return.

You can make an appointment online, by phone, or in person. Make sure to use a good internet connection and limit distractions. It’s also important to bring a professional interpreter if you need one.

You can also cancel your appointment if necessary.

If your application needs further investigation, you will be contacted and told how to make an appointment. The interview (sometimes called an identity interview) is normally one-to-one but may be in a group. It is designed to help HMRC confirm your identity and find out why you need a National Insurance number. You may be asked to provide photographic evidence as part of your appointment.

You must provide a valid email address when you request an appointment. You will receive an email with instructions on how to verify your appointment details. You must complete this step within 24 hours or your appointment will be cancelled. If you require an interpreter, you will need to respond within the same timeframe as there are charges for arranging this service.

An appointment is the way an insurance company authorizes a licensed producer to solicit insurance on its behalf. Appointments can be made or canceled electronically through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) website. The Pennsylvania Insurance Department requires that appointments and terminations be submitted electronically to expedite processing procedures. Insurers that do not have the capability to submit appointments and terminations electronically must continue to file a paper Monthly Appointment Activity Report (NIPR) to the Insurance Department.

They will try to offer appointments within 2 working days if you request them. They will also try to accommodate customers requiring specialist services, such as British Sign Language or lip speakers. Please note that HMRC may charge you for their services. Please see their Terms of Use for more information.
